"Patriot's Pen Program"
The Youth Essay contest is open to 7th and 8th grade students enrolled in public, private or parochial middle schools in the U.S., its territores or its possessions. Home schooled students also are eligible.Dependents of the U.S. military or civilian personal in overseas schools can participate too. Foreign exchange students are excluded from the contest.
This Years theme is "2007-2008 Theme "Why I am an American Patriot"".
The rules of the contest are write a essay from the theme essay length is 300 - 400 words. Deadline for entry is November 1, 2004.
You can get help from your teacher, but you must write your own essay.
Essays must be double spaced, typed or computer printed in English with no added color or art.
Contestants are not required to read their essays during the judging.
Do not include your name, your city, state or your school name within the essay.
Essays are judged:
Addresses Theme = 20 Points
Clarity of Ideas = 30 Points
Theme Development = 50 Points
Total = 100 Points
Essays will be numbered by the Posts to preserve contestants anonymity.
Essays are judged how well you understand, develop and present the theme. You are asked to express your view-point on the theme.
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, we must provide "reasonable accommodation for someone with a permanent disablity" since the Patriot's Pen competition is offered to the public through our nation's school system. Students with medically documented physical or educational handicaps, who would benifit from meanful participation in the program, should be encourged to participate to the extent that reasonable modificationcan be made to facilitate the handicap. Written requests to modify the rules because of a handicap, along with medical documentation of stated disability, must be attached to the student's entry form.
Program rules may be modified to allow the hearing/speech-impaired student and the chariman to select another individual to recite and record the essay as set forth in the participant and otherwise not involved with the program. Remember, the student who volunteers their voice will have absolutely no claim to any scholatships, awards or benefits associated with the handicapped students winning entry.
